Under 11 C/Cup semi Final v Gawler Gold

The 2 teams have never met before but Paul Evans talked to Rangers coach John Hart and Frank McCormack from the Wanderers as they are all in the second division as to how they play and which players needed to be watched.
Although the first half was very tight we had more of the ball and pushed forward a lot more but our attacks broke down through poor passing up front. Paul made a change with no result, the defence stayed firm continually pushing the forward. We felt 1 goal in the first half would of opened Gawler up but to their credit, we could not get through their defence. The half finished 0-0.
The second half started as the first half finished , tight and not quite linking up front, but still pushing forward a lot more. After about 10 minutes we won a corner. James Pritchard sent in a good corner kick which ended up in a goal mouth scramble, Anthony Federuzzi pounced on the loose ball and scored.
Minutes later Gawler found their way through our defence and scored to even up the score at 1 all.
The game once again tightened up, Daniel Begley on the left wing started supplying some good runs down the left wing, as did Josh Bradbury on the right wing. Daniel was brought down in the penalty box after another good run and we were given a penalty. Striker Sam Chilvers took the kick but it was saved by the keeper.
Not long after the full time whistle blew, the score locked at 1 all.
The first period of extra time was again tight, our defence holding firm. Still scores locked away at the end of the first period. The second period of extra time was still tight until some great work from the midfield pushing the ball through to striker Sam Chilvers who scored a great goal and then minutes later scored again to finish the game off 3-1.
Salisbury Villa now wait for us in the Challenge Cup final. We have played them twice this year, winning once 2-1 and loosing to them 4-2.
It would be great to see as many people as possible come along and support the boys as well as Andrew Cullen's under 14's to victory.

U14 Semi Final versus St Augustans

The two teams had played the previous week and St Augustans beat MV 2-1 and as a result took top spot from MV by one point. The two teams had now met three times this season and St Augustans, who were also the only team to beat MV this year, won all three games.
Upon kick off St Augustan scored a goal within the first few minutes but MV true to themselves and the club continued to attack even though after six corners to nil and with us having eleven shots at goal to three we were down one-nil.
Andy Cullen gave them a pep talk at half time, which sparked an incredible start to the second half with MV scoring two quick goals putting us up 2-1. During the second half MV had seven shots at goals to their eight while they had five corners to MV’s none. Unfortunately, with just five minutes to go, St Augustan scored an easy goal and from the sideline, you could see heads drop for just a very short period. With much positive talking suddenly coming from the players like the captain Daniel Allen and the goalie Paul Read as well as others we were suddenly attacking like never before. With just seconds to go, Besha Suleiman received a forward pass and was off. Upon reaching, the goal square he was illegally taken down and consequently rewarded with a penalty. Unfortunately the penalty went over the cross bar and the whistle blew for full time.
We were now into extra time with ten minutes each way after a five-minute break. Both teams were on the pitch waiting for the Referee as he was bugged and wanted his full five-minute break. During this period both teams had opportunities with MV having a further, four shots at goal to three and with us having two corners to one. To both teams credit neither side gave up and no one scored so the penalty shootout was on.
The coaches, who were not allowed on the pitch to talk to the player, had different attitudes, Andy just sat down quietly and let the boys sort out who was taking the shots while St Augustans coach was busy yelling out orders left right and centre.
We won the toss and took the first shot, which went in while their first went over the bar. Both sides scored their second shots, and we scored our third, which put us up 3-1. The pressure was now on them to score and our goalie Paul was nervous but not as nearly as much as his mother who could not watch. Their shot was on target and just left of our goalie Paul, who pulled off a fantastic save, his best and most important for the season, after both side having had three shots, we were 3-1 up, all we had to do was score one more. Our player went up and plastered the ball into the back off the net so we won 4-1 in penalty shoot-out and go into the finals.
I would just like to congratulate both teams for a fantastic game because neither side gave an inch and tried all day. We now play Ingle Farm in the cup final, which should be another good game and hope to see you all there supporting Modbury Vista in the final. Please note Paul Evans team is also in the C/C final so let’s support our club and players on the day.
